First Aid: When Help is Delayed

For those who need a quick introduction to emergency measures in delayed-help situations, First Aid: When Help is Delayed (WHID) is a great presentation. The two hour class (lecture with no skills) covers the emergency action steps to follow in cases where help is not readily accessible. Contacting help may not be immediate and the time required for the emergency workers to reach the patient may be extended. In these cases, urban first aid courses may not be enough information to give the patient the best care until more professional help can arrive.

The When Help is Delayed (WHID) course was first developed by National American Red Cross, and is now distributed through the Transylvania County Chapter as a complement to the new Wilderness First Aid Basics program. The following information is for those who plan to teach the WHID as a stand-alone course:

Instructor Information

The chapter will then issue an instructor certificate. Authorization is required in each jurisdiction the instructor teaches.
