Disaster Services

Disaster Action Team (DAT)

Learn how to respond to disasters in your community as part of the Disaster Action Team (DAT) After training, you will be able to assist local residents with food, shelter and clothing needs following such events as house fires, flooding and snow storms. We also provide food to the fire fighters involved in these events including search and rescue operations.

Disaster Services Human Resource System (DSHR)

For those willing and able to travel to other communities and states, you may want to join the Disaster Services Human Resource System (DSHR). This is a network of volunteers who are free to travel for up to three weeks at a time and who can be called up with 24 hours notice to help people across the country. The Red Cross flies or drives you to the disaster area expenses paid, This could be the most exciting job you never got paid for in cash, but you will come back a much richer person inside.

Disaster Classes

All classes will take place at the Transylvania County Chapter. There is no charge. Registration is required to assure adequate participants. Classes will be canceled if there are an inadequate number of registrants.
