Community Services

Vial of Life

The Vial of Life project is an ongoing project by the volunteers of the American Red Cross. The vials are medicine bottles with a health history record to be filled out by the recipient. The vial containing the health history is placed inside the refrigerator or car glove compartment with a sticker on the outside to alert paramedics. These vials can be a lifesaver for those with serious heath problems, allergies or medications. The vials are free of charge and available at our office or at one of our booths at the downtown festivals.

Medical Supply Lending Program

The Transylvania Chapter has a limited amount of medical equipment for lending to those who need it and perhaps cannot afford it. There is no charge, but there is no guarantee we will have what you need when you need it. Check with us if you need crutches, wheel chairs, potty seats, shower seats, walkers, etc. We also take donations of such items. Call our office for availability of items or to make a donation.

Service to the Armed Forces

The Transylvania Chapter assures that the men, women and families of our U.S. Armed Forces receive counseling, information, referral services, emergency communication and emergency financial assistance. Call the chapter for assistance.

International Services

For many, World War II isn’t over. The Red Cross tracing effort accesses the extensive resources of the International Red Cross Movement in helping to reunite families separated during the war. Because of the complexity of the search and enormous volume of requests, efforts may take a year or more. There is no charge for this service. The search begins with a call to the Transylvania Chapter of the Red Cross.
